1. 1

FedEx is a big American company you pay to carry packets and boxes, often very fast, and it works in many countries, including Taiwan. The name is a short blend of its old name, Federal Express — “express” because the selling point is speed, “federal” because it began as a US firm. People here usually just say FedEx in English; the Chinese company name is 聯邦快遞. Though actually, Americans also use FedEx as a verb: “I’ll FedEx it” means “I’ll send it with that company, quickly.” It is not a government office, even though Fed- makes it sound like one.
