A fashionista is someone who is very interested in fashion and who likes the very newest styles — the person who knows what is “in” this month and cares. It is a magazine-and-conversation word, playful rather than formal. You would not put it in a serious report. It can be fond: your friend who always notices shoes. It can also tease a little, as if clothes and labels matter more to this person than anything else. A fashionista is not the same as a fashion designer. The designer makes the clothes; the fashionista lives in that world, wears the looks, and talks about them. English built it from fashion plus -ista, an ending borrowed from Spanish and Italian for a follower or a devotee (the same flavour you hear in older political nicknames in -ista). It feels and stylish on purpose.
組成fashion + -ista. The Spanish/Italian ending -ista means a person devoted to something. A jokey, stylish way of saying “fashion person.”
