Falafel are small fried balls — or sometimes flat little cakes — made from ground , the pale hard beans you also use for hummus. They are a common Arabic and wider Middle Eastern food, often stuffed into bread with salad and sauce. Though actually, in Egypt people often make them with a different bean, not ; English still usually says falafel for both. You eat them at restaurants, street stands, and home kitchens. The word is everyday food talk, not formal. In English we use falafel for the balls and also for the sandwich.
