To face-palm is to put the flat of your hand on your face — often over your eyes or forehead — because you feel , disappointed, or shocked at how silly something was. Sometimes the silly thing is your own mistake; sometimes it is someone else’s. It can be a real movement or just a way to say “I cannot believe this.” The internet made the word common; you will also see it written facepalm, as one word. Informal: fine in messages and chat, too casual for a formal report. Though actually, it is not hitting your face in anger. It is more like covering your face because the moment is awkward.
face-palm 指把手掌平貼在臉上，常遮住眼睛或額頭，表示尷尬、失望，或被一件蠢事嚇到。蠢事可能是自己的錯，也可能是別人的。它可以是真的做出動作，也可以只是表達「我不敢相信」這樣的感覺。網路讓這個字很普遍，也常寫成 facepalm 一個字。它是口語，在訊息和聊天裡很自然，但放在正式報告裡就太隨便了。它的重點不是生氣地打自己，而是因為當下太尷尬，只好把臉遮起來。
