The FAA is a United States government organisation whose job is to keep flying safe: aircraft, pilots, airports, and the rules of the air. If a plane has a problem, or a new aircraft wants permission to fly in the US, American news means this body. The letters stand for Federal Aviation Administration. Other countries have their own organisations for the same kind of work; the FAA is the American one. People always say the FAA. It is an official, news-and-law word, not a casual one, and it is not a stretched-out musical fa.
