Exmoor is a large stretch of open country in southwest England, mostly in Devon and Somerset. A moor is land with rough grass, low bushes, and wet ground, and almost no farms. Wild ponies live there — small horses that run free. It is a National Park, so the land is looked after, and walkers and tourists come for the views and the animals. People use Exmoor as a place name, like a city name; they do not use it for every moor. Though actually, the name is older than the park: it first meant the wet land where the River Exe starts.
