Exec is a short, informal way to say executive: a person high up in a company who makes decisions, not the person doing the everyday hands-on work. You hear it in business talk, newspapers, and TV: “a tech exec,” “studio execs.” It feels American and a bit insider. In a careful letter you would write executive. Though actually, the same short form also shows up in computing as a clip of execute — to run a program — but that is a different job for the same . Here we mean the person.
