To exasperate someone is to wear them down into strong by keeping on. The dripping tap, the sibling who asks “why?” twenty times, the website that makes you start again — these exasperate people. It is stronger than , and it usually needs that feeling of “this keeps happening.” You exasperate a person, not a situation (the situation word is often exacerbate — they look like cousins, and students mix them). The Latin picture is “make rough”: rub someone raw. The verb is fairly formal; the adjective exasperated is more common in speech.
