A ewe is a female sheep — the mother, or a female old enough to have lambs. The male is a ram, and the baby is a lamb. Farmers and people who work with animals use ewe all the time; though actually, in ordinary city talk you more often just hear sheep, and people still understand. It is a plain, slightly farm-flavoured word, not slang and not fancy. You also meet it in older stories and in the Bible, because sheep were part of everyday life. It is only for sheep, not for goats or other animals.
母羊
組成The word does not split. It comes from Middle English ewe, from Old English eowu, and before that from the old Germanic and Indo-European words for sheep.
