Euston is a big railway station in north-central London. If you take a long-distance train from London toward the north and the west of Britain — Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow — there is a fair chance you leave from here. It is one of London’s main termini: trains end and start there, rather than running straight through. People also say “Euston” for the Underground station beside it, and for the area around Euston Road; though actually, when someone says “I’ll meet you at Euston,” they usually mean the mainline station, with the huge departure hall and the long-distance trains. It is a place-name, not a common noun, so you do not say “an euston.” It is an everyday word in British travel talk, and it turns up in news whenever the station is rebuilt or when new high-speed plans are argued over. Learners sometimes hear it next to King’s Cross, Paddington, and Waterloo — those are the other big London stations, each sending trains in a different direction. Euston is the one that faces north.
