1. 1

Ethnological means “to do with ethnology”: the comparative study of peoples and cultures. An ethnological museum, an ethnological question, ethnological evidence. It is a formal adjective. Older books framed that study as being about “.” Though actually, the honest object today is cultures and ethnic groups, and “race” is treated as a loaded, often unscientific, idea. The word does not mean ethnic (about one group’s identity) and it does not mean ethnographic (the close-up describing style), even though the three sit in the same family and even specialists blur them sometimes.
