ETA is the time we think a plane, a ship, a train, or a bus will arrive. The letters stand for estimated time of arrival: estimated means it is a careful guess, not a promise. Weather, traffic, and delays can move it. Airports, shipping, and delivery apps put it on screens all day. Friends use it in messages too — 'What's your ETA?' means 'About when will you be here?' That use is casual. Offices stretch it even further: 'What's the ETA on that report?' means when the work will be done, though nothing is flying. Write it in capital letters. You can say each letter, E-T-A, or say the full words. Other things in the world are also written eta or ETA — a Greek letter, and a Japanese word now treated as . Those are different words that happen to look the same. This entry is only the arrival time.
