Erotica is pictures, films, and writing made to stir sexual feeling. People usually keep this word for work they want to treat as art, or at least as something you might discuss, not only as a product sold for arousal. A book of love scenes, a film that on desire, a set of drawings of the body — those can all be called erotica. Though actually, the line is messy and a bit snobbish. One reader will say erotica; another will call the same book pornography. “Erotica” sounds softer and more high-brow; “pornography” sounds blunter and more commercial. There is no clean test. The word itself is rather formal. Among friends, people are more likely to say “a sexy book” or just name the title.
組成From the neuter plural of Latin eroticus (“amatory”), from Ancient Greek ἐρωτικός (erōtikós), from ἔρως (érōs, “sexual love, desire”). By the look of the English: erotic + -ica (things of that kind).
