If a place is equidistant from two other places, it is the same distance from each of them. A town might sit equidistant from two cities; a point on a line might be equidistant from the two ends. You meet it in geography and maths. You can also use it of more than two points: a centre point equidistant from all the corners of a square. People sometimes stretch it to ideas, not maps: a newspaper that tries to stay equidistant from two political parties means it is trying not to stand closer to one than the other. That stretch is a bit journalist-like. In ordinary talk, the same distance from both is clearer for young . The word is built in a very honest way: equal + distant.
組成From Middle French équidistant, from Late Latin aequidistantem, from aequī (“equal”) + distantem (“standing apart, distant”). By the look of the English word: equi- + distant.
