To entail something means that it necessarily involves or requires that thing — if one thing happens, the other comes with it, whether you want it or not. "Starting a business entails a lot of risk" means risk is simply part of the package; you can't avoid it. It's a fairly formal word, common in writing about plans, decisions, or consequences, less common in casual speech.
