Endangerment is the noun for putting someone or something in danger of being hurt, damaged, or destroyed. It names the act, or the state of being in that risk — not the feeling of fear, and not “danger” sitting there as a thing. You will hear it most in serious, often legal, English: child endangerment (putting a child in harm’s way), reckless endangerment (taking a foolish risk that could hurt people). News and courtrooms use it; everyday talk usually just says “putting someone in danger.” Though actually, in biology you may also meet it next to endangered species: the endangerment of a species is the process of pushing it toward dying out. It is a heavy, formal word. It is not how a friend would you for a small everyday risk.
