    An emu is a very large bird from Australia. It runs very fast on long legs, but it cannot fly — its wings are too small. It looks a bit like an ostrich (the big African bird), but it is not the same animal: emus live in Australia, and their feathers are brown-grey and shaggy. People sometimes farm emus for meat and oil.

組成Probably from Portuguese ema, an old name for large birds that cannot fly (first used for birds like the cassowary and the giant rhea; Portuguese now uses ema for the ostrich). English took the word for this Australian bird.
