An emetic is something you swallow so that you will vomit — so the stomach sends food back up. Doctors used to give emetics when they wanted a poison out of the body quickly. The word is also an adjective: an emetic drug is one that makes you throw up. It is a hospital and textbook word. You would not use it for feeling sick on a bus. Though actually, making someone vomit is not always the right help now, and it is not something to try at home.
