In this sense, EMEA is a European office that used to examine whether new medicines were safe and whether they did what they claimed, before those medicines could be sold. People said the letters E-M-E-A. It is the older name of the body that is now called the EMA — the European Medicines Agency. You will still see EMEA on older papers, older news, and older drug files. The office checked evidence from companies, asked hard questions, and then said yes, no, or not yet. This is official, scientific English, not street English. Though actually, if you meet EMEA in a business class, it almost always means something else: Europe, the Middle East, and Africa — a way companies cut the world into sales regions. That regional meaning is the one most bump into first. The medicines meaning is real, but it is the older official name, and it is the one this entry is for. If a text is about drugs and safety, read EMEA as that agency; if it is about offices, markets, and “our EMEA team,” it is the region.
