    To embalm a dead body is to treat it with chemicals, oils, or so that it does not decay quickly. Funeral workers do this so relatives can see the person and say goodbye, or so the body can be kept for a time. Ancient Egypt is famous for preserving the dead, though actually modern embalming is not the same craft as making a mummy: today's method uses fluids, not desert air and linen wrapping. The word is specific. Ordinary families may just say the funeral home prepared the body. There is a rare literary stretch — to embalm a memory is to keep it from , as if with perfume — but the meaning you will need first is the body.
