Elucidation is the noun: the act of explaining something difficult by giving more information, or the explanation you end up with. A paper may offer an elucidation of a confusing law; a teacher may add a few sentences of elucidation after a dense paragraph. It keeps the formal, academic feel of elucidate. In ordinary speech people say explanation, clarification, or just 'a clearer account'. Use elucidation when you want to name that careful making-clear as a thing in itself, usually in writing. It is countable when you mean a particular explanation (an elucidation of X) and more abstract when you mean the process.
