An elitist system, government, school, or club is one in which a small group has more power and advantages than other people, and the place is built to keep it that way. Elitist also names the person: someone who believes they belong to the better group, or who wants the world run by that group. As an adjective it describes the system or the attitude; as a noun it names the person. It is usually a criticism, not a compliment. Calling a taste “elitist” means you think it looks down on ordinary people, not merely that it is refined. Though actually, the accused person often hears “you think you are better than us”, even if they only meant “this is hard and not for everyone”.
組成elite + -ist (a person who follows that belief, or an adjective meaning “of that kind”).
