Elicitation is the act of getting information or a reaction out of someone, especially when it is hard to get. In class, elicitation is the teacher’s skill of pulling language from students instead of pouring it in. In research, elicitation is the method: pictures, questions, or tasks used so that people produce words or stories you can study. It is a formal, specialist noun — the everyday verb is still get or draw out. You talk about the elicitation of answers, of memories, of a response. It names the process, not the person you are asking.
