A small strip you stick on your skin to cover a cut or a little wound. It has sticky edges and a soft pad in the middle that sits on the hurt place. You use it for small damage — a cut finger, a graze — not for a big wrap around an arm or a leg. Elastoplast began as a British brand name, and though actually many people in Britain still say “an Elastoplast” for any stick-on plaster, not only that brand, the way people in the United States say “a Band-Aid.” In shops you will still see the name on a box; in everyday talk it often just means “a plaster.” It is a British word. American English prefers Band-Aid or adhesive . It is ordinary, slightly English — a bathroom-cupboard word, not a hospital word.
