A festival in Wales where people compete in singing, poetry, music, and often reciting or other Welsh arts. It is not a pop concert and not a sports day; it is a cultural gathering with judges and prizes, and the National Eisteddfod is the big yearly one. English borrowed the Welsh word as it is, without smoothing the spelling. In Welsh it is built from sit and be, so the old idea is a sitting — a session where people come together. You keep that Welsh look in English sentences; you do not translate it. It is a specialised word. You mainly meet it when the subject is Wales. The English plural is often eisteddfods; Welsh has its own plural, which you may see in careful writing.
