Edgy has two common meanings that feel almost opposite in tone. About a person's mood, edgy means nervous, tense, or easily irritated — 'she's been edgy all week before the exam'. About art, fashion, comedy, or style, edgy means modern, bold, and a little shocking on purpose — pushing past what's safe or normal, in a way that some people find and others find too much. So 'an edgy joke' isn't a nervous joke — it's a joke that takes a risk by being close to offensive.
