An ecotarian is someone whose aim, when they eat, is to do less harm to the earth. They look for food that took less energy to produce, or food grown without a lot of artificial chemicals, or food that did not travel halfway around the world. The point is the damage, not a single food rule. Though actually, this is not the same as a vegetarian. A vegetarian avoids meat. An ecotarian might still eat meat if they believe that animal was raised in a way that hurts the land less — or they might eat very little meat, for the same earth-reason, not because meat is “wrong” in itself. The word is built like vegetarian and pescatarian: you name a person by how they eat. It is still a fairly new, fairly uncommon label. Many people who eat this way never use the word at all; they just say they try to eat in an eco-friendly way. You will meet it more in writing about food and the planet than in everyday chat.
環保飲食者(重點是少傷害環境,不一定吃素。不要直接當成素食者)
組成eco- + -tarian (the same person-ending as in vegetarian: someone who eats according to a rule).
