E-money is money that lives as numbers on a computer, a phone, or a card — not as coins and notes in your pocket. You store value and spend it later, for example the stored value on a travel card or in some digital wallets, without handing over cash. Banks and governments sometimes use the word in a tighter, legal way: a stored value that is not the same thing as money sitting in an ordinary bank account. Everyday speakers are looser, and may say e-money for almost any paying you do on a phone. It is a fairly technical, news-and-business word. In shops people more often name the card or the app. It is not automatically the same as a brand-new internet coin (cryptocurrency), and it is not simply “paying by card” — a credit card often moves bank money; e-money is the value stored itself.
e-money 是存在電腦、手機或卡片裡的數字形式的錢，不是口袋裡的硬幣和紙鈔。你可以先把價值存進去，之後再花用，例如交通卡或某些電子錢包裡的餘額。這是比較偏技術、新聞和商業的用語，在店裡人們通常會直接說卡片或 app 的名字。
銀行和政府有時會用比較嚴格的法律定義，指儲存的價值，和一般銀行帳戶裡的錢不是同一回事。一般人用得比較寬鬆，可能只要用手機付款，就叫它 e-money。它不等於加密貨幣，也不等於單純的刷卡：信用卡通常動的是銀行裡的錢，e-money 則是價值本身存在電子裡。
