Dysfunction means something isn't working the way it's supposed to - a body part, a machine, a system, or even a family or relationship can be 'dysfunctional'. You'll often hear it about families: 'a dysfunctional family' is one where the relationships and communication are unhealthy, even if things look fine from the outside.
