A dynamo is a device that generates electricity, especially the small mechanical kind you find on an old bicycle, which lights the lamp as the wheel spins. The word is used just as often in a figurative sense, for a person who is extremely energetic and gets a huge amount done — 'she's a real dynamo' means she never seems to run out of energy.
