    DWI is an American legal short form, said as letters. It means driving while intoxicated — driving after you have had too much alcohol (intoxicated means drunk, or in some places also affected by drugs). It is the crime of drunk driving. The US also uses , driving under the influence. Which letters you see depends on the state, and the exact legal meaning is not always the same, but in ordinary talk both mean you drove when you should not have, because of drink or drugs. British English says drink-driving. In Taiwan, nobody uses these letters in daily life.
