A dustsheet is a large sheet of cloth you spread over furniture, floors, or a whole room so dust and paint do not land on what you care about. Painters put them down before they open a tin; families also drape them over chairs and sofas in a room that nobody is using for a while. It is mainly British English. In American English people more often say drop cloth when they mean the painter’s sheet, or they talk about covering something with a sheet. In everyday talk you may also see it written as two words, dust sheet, with the same meaning. It is a practical house-and-work word, not a fancy one.
