Dusky means dark, or not very bright, in colour — a dusky pink, a dusky sky, a dusky room. It is with a -y on the end: the colour feels like that half-dark hour. Writers like it for light, hills, flowers, wings. It is softer than black, and greyer than a clean bright colour. Though actually, older English also used dusky for a person's skin. That use is now often felt as dated or , because it treats a person as a colour first. For things and for light, it is still a normal, slightly literary word.
