Duly means in the correct, proper, or expected way — usually used in fairly formal writing to show that something was done exactly as it should be, at the right time, following the right steps. You will meet it in official or legal-sounding sentences: 'the form was duly signed', 'he duly arrived at nine o'clock as promised'. It has a slightly old-fashioned, formal feeling — you would not usually use it in casual daily conversation with a friend.
