Dulcet means sweet and pleasant to hear — and you almost always use it about a voice or a sound, not about cake. In careful old writing it can be sincere: a dulcet tone is soft and nice. In real talk now, though actually, people often use it with a little joke. “Her dulcet tones” can mean “here she is talking again”, sometimes fond, sometimes teasing, even a bit sharp if the voice is not sweet at all. That humorous, slightly fancy use about someone’s voice is the one you are most likely to meet. It is not a shop word. A narrator uses it, or a friend uses it with a grin.
