Dublin is the capital of the Republic of Ireland. It sits on the east coast, on the River . Famous Irish writers lived and worked there — Jonathan Swift, George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, James Joyce — and there are many songs about the city. One well-known song, “Molly Malone,” starts “In Dublin’s fair city, where the girls are so pretty…” It is only a place name. You do not use Dublin as a common word for a kind of thing. English says DUB-lin, with a short first sound.
