A driverless vehicle is steered and stopped by equipment inside it, not by a person holding the wheel. People also say self-driving. It is an adjective: a driverless car, a driverless taxi, a driverless train. Some trains have worked this way for years; driverless cars on ordinary roads are newer, and they still make people argue about safety. Though actually, driverless does not mean the car is empty. Passengers can sit inside. It only means no human is doing the driving. You will hear it in news and tech talk; in everyday speech many people just say self-driving car.
