If you call a song, a film, or a person drippy, you mean they are full of soft feeling in a silly, over-sweet way — too many tears, too much "I love you," not enough backbone. A drippy love story makes you roll your eyes. A drippy person seems weak and , not because they are wet, but because their feelings leak out. It is informal, a little , and more at home in British English than in careful American prose. The picture comes from drip: wet, dripping, soppy. Though actually, some younger speakers now use drippy to mean stylish, from slang drip for cool clothes. That is a different path. This sense is the older "too sentimental" one.
