Drip-dry clothes are made so you can wash them, hang them up wet, and let the water drip off. When they are dry they are smooth enough that you do not need to iron them. You can also use it as a verb: hang the shirt and let it drip-dry. The idea grew in the mid-1900s, when new man-made cloth (nylon and the like) could dry without a thick fold of . Though actually, not every shirt you hang on a line is drip-dry. Cotton often dries with creases; drip-dry is a claim about the cloth itself. On a care label it sits next to "do not iron" more than next to poetry.
