Dressing-up is the children’s game of putting on special clothes — a cape, mum’s shoes, a uniform, something from the costume box — and pretending to be someone else: a doctor, a princess, a pirate. British English especially uses dressing-up as the name of the game (“Shall we play dressing-up?”); American English more often says dress-up. It is play, not a job, and not the same as getting dressed in the morning for school. Adults dress up when they put on smart clothes for a party, but the game-word is mainly kids’ pretend. dressing-up 是小孩子玩的遊戲：穿上披風、媽媽的鞋、制服，或服裝箱裡的東西，假裝成醫生、公主或海盜。英式英語常把它當作遊戲的名字，例如「Shall we play dressing-up?」（我們來玩扮裝遊戲好不好？）；美式英語比較常說「dress-up」。
