A drawstring is a cord that runs through the top of a bag, a hoodie, a pair of trousers, or a cloth sack. You pull the ends and the opening gets smaller and tighter; you it and the opening opens again. The name is honest: you draw (pull) a string. It is a simple, practical word, more at home on a clothes label or a gym bag than in a story. The bag or the trousers are not themselves “a drawstring”; they have a drawstring, or we say a drawstring bag.
