To drawl is to speak slowly, stretching the vowel sounds so they last longer than usual. A drawl (the noun) is that way of talking. People often picture a “Southern drawl” in the United States, though a slower, stretched way of speaking turns up in other places too. It can sound relaxed, bored, teasing, or simply local, depending on the speaker; the word itself is not a compliment and not an insult. It comes from draw plus a little ending -le that means “keep doing it”: you draw the sounds out.
