Dover is a port town on the southeast coast of England, at the narrow sea between England and France (the English Channel). Ferries still carry people, cars, and goods across to France from here, and the Channel Tunnel starts nearby; for a long time this was the ordinary way to cross. The white cliffs beside the town are famous in English songs and stories. Though actually, when people say Dover they almost always mean this English port, not the smaller places that later borrowed the name — there is a village in Nova Scotia, Canada, that was probably named after the town in England. It is a place name, so it takes a capital letter.
