First, it's a type of bird, closely related to the pigeon, small and usually white or grey — doves are a well-known symbol of peace, often shown in art or released at ceremonies. Second, in American English, 'dove' is the past tense of the verb 'dive' — 'she dove into the pool' (in British English, people usually say 'dived' instead).
