Doping is using drugs to do better in a sport — to run faster, get stronger, or hide that you are tired or hurt. The drugs are not allowed. If testers find them, the athlete can lose medals and be told they may not race for a long time. People also say “taking drugs that help you perform,” which is the long, careful phrase; doping is the short one you hear on the news. You can use it as a name for the practice (“doping is cheating”) or as the -ing form of the verb (“they caught him doping”). Though actually, in a science class you may meet another doping: putting extra stuff into a computer chip. That is not this word. Here we mean sport, and cheating with drugs.
