Your domicile is the place where you live — but this is the official word, not the one you use with friends. In law, domicile is your legal home: the country or city that counts as yours, even if you are staying somewhere else for a while. A student from Taiwan at a university abroad may still have their domicile in Taiwan if that is where they truly belong on paper. On forms, people also use it more loosely for “address” or “where you live.” There is a verb too, to domicile someone, meaning to settle them somewhere as their official home, but you will mostly meet the noun. Though actually, domicile and home are not quite the same. Home is where you feel you live. Domicile is where the papers say you live, and those two can come apart.
