Sometimes a country still has its own money on paper, but people do not want it. They save in US dollars, they write prices in dollars, they ask to be paid in dollars. When that happens widely — or when the government itself says the country will use the dollar now — we call it dollarization. It is not about getting rich. It is about whose money people trust. You meet the word in news and economics, not at the market. Official dollarization is a government choice; unofficial dollarization is what people do on their own when their own money feels unsafe. Though actually, a country that 'uses the dollar' is also giving something up: it can no longer print its own money or steer it in the old way.
