The dockside is the edge of the land right next to the water in a port — where the ship sits, where cranes stand, where cargo comes off. You can stand on the dockside and almost touch the side of the ship. People also use it like an adjective: a dockside café, dockside warehouses, a dockside crane. It is narrower than . is the whole neighbourhood; dockside is the strip along the water. You will hear it in news about ports, strikes, and old industrial cities, and also in quieter talk: a walk along the dockside in the evening.
