Disequilibrium is a lack of balance in a system. Economists use it when supply and demand do not match, so prices or quantities sit in an awkward place. Scientists use it for any set of forces that is not in equilibrium. Doctors sometimes use it when a person feels unsteady, as if the body’s balance system is off. Though actually, in ordinary talk most people just say “out of balance” or “unbalanced.” This long word lives in textbooks, papers, and formal reports. It is not a simple maths word for “not equal” — that is inequality — and it is not, by itself, the everyday word for feeling , even though medical English may use it that way. It names a state of a system, not a personality.
