To disallow something is to say, officially, “this does not count / we will not accept this,” usually because a rule has been broken. A referee disallows a goal. A tax office disallows an expense. A court disallows a claim or a piece of evidence. Though actually, this is not the everyday opposite of allow in the home sense. Parents do not allow sweets before dinner; they do not disallow them. Disallow belongs to games, law, and offices, and it usually hits something already claimed or already done.
